Getting a good night sleep is better said than done. This is especially so in the modern, fast-paced life of 24-hour economies. We spend so much time trying to make ends meet that we forget about one of the things that matter most in our lives- a good night sleep.
Simple guidelines on how to get a good night sleep
Sleep whenever you feel like it
Some people have set strict timelines for going to bed. While there is nothing wrong with that, the internal clock may not be in line with these set timelines. It is the internal clock that decides when you should feel sleepy, so obey it. As long as it is at night, do not wait until you are constantly dozing off on the sofa so that you can go to bed. Take your meal as early as you can so that you can go to bed immediately you feel sleepy.
Sleep just enough
There is something like too much sleep. For this reason, sleep for the recommended number of hours only. Nothing more nothing less. Whenever in doubt, consult your doctor. If you oversleep, you are exposing yourself to heart diseases among others. On the other hand, under sleeping deprives your body of important rest time.
Take a siesta, but don’t overdo it
You can enjoy a few minutes sleep in the afternoon after lunch, as long as it is within the boundaries of the definition of a nap. It is normal to feel sleepy in the afternoon. In the same spirit of sleeping whenever you feel like it, take a 15-minute nap whenever you feel sleepy during the day. However, make sure that you do not overdo it. If the nap goes beyond 30 minutes, it may affect your night’s sleep. Napping in fine moderation ensures that you neither oversleep or under sleep at night.
Watch what you eat before going to bed
You are always advised to take a light meal at night. On top of being light, the meal should be taken a few hours before going to bed, so that by the time you sleep, digestion is already complete. Avoid foods and beverages that interfere with a night’s sleep and substitute them with sleep-inducing foods like dairy products.
Once in bed, sleep like a madman
When you go to bed, sleep like a madman. Forget everything that exists in real life. Take a break from the modern roller coaster life. Do not sacrifice any minute of your sleep to do unnecessary things. You have been a busy bee during the day. You can’t afford to be busy at night as well.
All said and done; you need to be in the pink of health to have a good night’s sleep. You also need to make the bedroom and the bed conducive for high-quality sleep. Once everything is set, now get to bed and sleep like there is no waking up.…
